CASMA, THE CITY OF THE ETERNAL SUN

Casma, located north of Lima, has great places to see and it has some important pre-inca archaeological sights.

Sechin, a pre-inca culture that belongs to the Early Formative (2000 to 1000 B.C.), more known as the great warriors of the Casma Valley. The site is composed by 5 buildings, a lithic gallery and a sunken square. Decorated by motifs representing the human drama of the war, being a unique site in Peru.

Chanquillo, the oldest solar observatory in America. Built more than 2,000 years ago, in the coastal area of Peru. The observatory is formed by thirteen on-line lifted towers, from north to south on the summit of Mount Chanquillo that indicated the annual displacement of the Sun, accurately, as well as the solstices and the equinoxes. Also, it contains two artificial points of observation separated by 200 meters with a kind of a fortress surrounded by three concentric rings.
Before these investigations Chanquillo was considered a fortress with eminently military functions and it was related with the Mochica Culture of the First Regional Development. (200-600. C.).

PART OF THE MACHU PICCHU INCATRAIL HAS BEEN CLOSED

A part of the Inca Trail section has been closed because of a landslide.
It has been ordered a detour of the tourists who pass through this stretch. They want to
prevent tragedies such as occurred last year.
The Regional Bureau of Culture of Cusco has closed, two kilometers of the Inca Trail, in the last part Wiñaywayna - Machu Picchu (Intipunko) as a security measure, by landslides registered in this area.
Because of this possibility, in recent hours, staff of the National Service of Protected Areas by the State (Sernanp) diverted two groups of tourists to the kilometer 106 of the railroad to continue to Aguascalientes, so they can conclude their visit to the Inca citadel.
Last year a tour guide and a tourist from Argentina died in this area by landslides, so this time the aim is to prevent tragedies.
